A few easy steps to make your computer much faster.

A lot of people experience computer slowdown over time. One of the most common services that we offer is to tune up your computer. We are happy to do it for you but it is actually quite easy to do for yourself. I will walk you through a quick guide of what we do.

The first thing we do is that we blow the dust of the computer, you would be surprised how many issues are caused by dust. Never vacuum your computer, that can cause static and hurt things. We use a leaf blower. Be careful not to make fans spin faster than designed because that can harm them.

This guide is for windows 10 specifically but most of these things should apply to windows 11 and 7.

Fix Errors

First you can check the Reliability Monitor…. Just click the start button and type reliability. It will give you recent dates with issues. If you click on them it will tell you what programs are failing. From there you can choose to uninstall them or repair them.

Next we will use two commands that restore and repair any issues with windows files. You need to run these from an Admin command prompt. Simply hit start, type command but don’t click on it, right click and hit run as Admin. Then type these two commands exactly as shown.

  • dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  • sfc /scannow

Clean up startup

Next you want to fix things that run on startup. Many program like to run on startup and take up space in your ram and use your CPU. Open Task Manager (Just press Control-Shift-ESC at the same time. From here go to the Startup tab and then look at what is loading. You can right click on items and remove disable them.

If you see programs on this list that you don’t need installed you can also uninstall them. If something is not on this list it likely is not impacting the speed of your computer. You can just hit start and type Apps & Features then click on programs you don’t need and click uninstall.

Clean up Browser

A lot of people have a fast computer but complain about slow internet. Many times this is due to browser plugins that are slowing down your browser. Be sure to check these and remove the ones you don’t need or ones that are impacting your browser. I use chrome, so I will show you a chrome screen shot. But all modern drives have a similar section.

Go here and click on Extensions.

You can disable them by using the blue slider, or you can just delete them all together.

After doing these simple steps, and doing a reboot, you should have a much faster computer. If your computer is still slow and you are running on a hard drive, then upgrade to a SSD Drive. If you have slow internet and it is not your computer that is the problem then look into faster internet.
